Cake Care and Frequently Asked Questions

Cake Care

When it comes to cakes, or cupcakes, we want all of our clients to be able to enjoy it the best way possible. Here you will find some tips in how to cut the cake, storing the cake, and travelling with the cake. If you have any other questions regarding your cake order please don’t hesitate to contact us and we will be happy to provide more information.

To pick up the cake box, ensure one hand is placed underneath to support the weight and the other can hold the side of the box. Do not pick up the box with hands on the side as the cake will not be supported that way and the box can bend inward potentially removing any icing from the cake.

We cannot be responsible for anything that happens to the cake due to improper handling or travelling.

Before Pick Up

Ensure we are the last stop before returning home. Do not leave the cake/cupcakes in the car, especially when it’s hot out. The icing is buttercream and will melt when it gets hot. We will not be responsible should this occur and any replacements provided will be charged at full price.

Be aware of the type of vehicle the person picking up the order has prior to the order date. Small two-door cars are not recommended to transport a large order including a cake and cupcakes, and you won’t be able to transport a cake on a motorcycle. The vehicle should have enough space in either the back seat or the trunk without the risk of anything falling on top. If the order is large, plan ahead by bringing some boxes to transport the cake and/or cupcakes. Some boxes may be available in store, but are never guaranteed.

Once the order is picked up, we encourage the driver to head right to the venue/event location. When you arrive, place the cake/cupcakes in a cool area, or fridge if available, out of the sunlight and direct heat. For overnight storage, keep the cupcakes stored in their containers, tightly sealed, and the cake covered in the fridge, especially if it has a fruit or ‘soft’ filling (bavarian cream, cream cheese, etc). If the cake gets too warm, the filling has a risk of seeping out the sides and may ruin the cake design.

The cake/cupcakes can be removed from the cold storage and left at room temperature for about an hour or two prior to serving, to allow the icing and cake to soften again, ensuring the best taste possible.

Contact us if you have any other questions and we will be happy to assist!

Enjoy your cake and cupcakes!

Cutting Tips

Storing

Travelling

To cut your cake, you will need a large cutting board and a knife.

As our cakes are tall, we recommend cutting into a grid-like pattern to get the most servings.

  • Take the knife and mark a cutting grid on the top of the cake, starting in the middle, and doing it again in-between each side until you have 4 to 6 ‘sections’ depending on the size of your cake.

  • Place the cutting board on the side of the cake you are going to cut first, and cut all the way down. You should have a slab of the cake on the board.

  • Once the first piece has been cut and on the board, you can then make 2 or 3 more cuts horizontally (giving you 3 or 4 smaller pieces of cake) and then you can cut those pieces in half again, doubling the amount.

  • Do this for the entire cake to get the most servings possible. Any extras can be seconds for guests, or you can wrap and store in the fridge for breakfast!

If you’re needing to store your cake until you serve it, or if it’s leftovers, we recommend these tips to ensure the cake tastes as good as day one!

  • Cakes can be left at room temperature, as long as they are not in direct sunlight or have a heat source next to them. Or they can be placed in a garage, basement, or a cooler area if available.

  • You can place your cake in the fridge if you like (without the box if you don’t have space) but just be sure to take it out about one hour before serving. This will allow the cake and icing to soften and come back to room temperature to enjoy.

  • Any cake left over can be cut into smaller pieces, wrapped in saran wrap and placed into a tupperware container. It can be left in the fridge for a few days after the event. You may also place it in the freezer as long as it is in an air-tight container to prevent freezer burn *note that the icing may have a freezer taste if left in for a long period.

  • Take the cake out and let it come to room temperature and enjoy!

Taking the cake on a road trip can be daunting. Below are some helpful tips to help you and the cake arrive safely.

  • If you’re travelling alone, we recommend to passenger side floor to keep the cake. Set the seat back as far as it can to allow more space to pickup the cake. DO NOT TRAVEL WITH THE CAKE ON THE SEAT. If brakes are applied too quickly/hard, the cake can fly off the seat and it will be ruined.

  • If you have a passenger, they can hold onto the cake on their lap if the cake is small.

  • You can also place the cake in the back (if you have an SUV with an open trunk space) on a flat surface. Ensure nothing will be able to fall onto the cake during the trip.

  • Drive at a comfortable speed and slow down around corners. Cakes or stacked cupcake containers can topple over if not careful.

  • Keep the cake out of direct sunlight if possible and keep the AC on if driving for a long period of time.
